Yesterday evening (Monday 29th November) myself and two of my bestest friends visited Palace Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue to watch the very drag Priscilla, the musical!
Myself and my friend Victoria had bought the surprise for our friend Edward for his 21st birthday! & I can possibly say it was the most fun I have had in ages!
The show was brilliant and very funny!

I took a couple of poor photos on my iPhone, not the best quality!

Caryn Franklin visits Southampton Solent

Source: http://allwalks.org

Last week Caryn Franklin visited Southampton Solent university to talk to students about the 'All Walks Beyond the Catwalk' campaign initiative that Caryn Franklin, Debra Bourne and Erin O'Connor work on to create more Diversity and body image awareness in the fashion industry.

It was a great, intellectual talk and I found Caryn Franklin a really inspiring lady of fashion and very interesting to engage with. I have seen her present at events such as Graduate Fashion Week and also the Canine Partners show i worked on last week and I do feel she can relate to her audience and likes to interact with people to create different opinions.

At the end of the talk we were all asked the question:
'How important is the body to your designs?'

We were all asked to write our opinions on a sheet of calico with our individual thoughts and answers to Caryn's question. The calico will travel to participating universities and colleges that are engaging with the 'All Walks' campaign within the universities practises.

Eventually once the students across the UK have written their thoughts on 'body image' the dress will be developed into a Couture dress and to be displayed at the National Portrait Gallery in February 2011! A very exciting thought that we would have all had a part in making the print for the garment, full of inspirational ideas about diversity and body image.

My comment on the All Walks piece of calico.

Very.co.uk & XFactor show

Last week, Wednesday 24th November I worked on a Very.co.uk fashion show. The show was to create press attention as the remaining XFactor contestants joined us backstage and were featured in the catwalk show wearing Very.co.uk clothing.

We started our day off by fitting the models for the show with Very.co.uk garments and styled these garments with accessories and shoes ready for the dress rehearsal in later on that afternoon. All the garments were from a range of brands featured within Very.co.uk including Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby; below is a dress from Holly Willoughbys new range for the brand:

The models were all really nice and very co-operative in the styling stage. There was the most gorgeous shoes being featured in the show, including a pair of coral Kurt Geiger quilted heels which I defiantly had my eye on!

The hair and make-up was really sweet, the hair involved loose curls, elegant but a laid back look. The makeup was quite minimal with a silver tint to the lipgloss for the lips and a dark shade for the eyes covered with a gold and silver shimmer!
Very nice indeed.

There was a full dress rehearsal that happened later that afternoon, below are some of the images from the rehearsal and a sneaky peak at the lovely dresses!
(All photos taken by myself)

The dress rehearsal went well despite the plastic sheeting that was covering the stage, i'm sure that wasn't part of health and safety but hay ho, no one tripped over thats the main thing!!

Soon after the dress rehearsal the models were straight back to hair and make-up and then excitement started back stage as the first X Factor contestants arrived!

One Direction were first to arrive!

XFactor - One Direction clothing rail

XFactor - One Direction boys
All the contestants were participating apart from Mary, however we did have her rail ready so whether that was a last minute decision i'm not sure. One Direction, Katie, Cher, Wagner, Matt and Rebecca were all there and eager to get on stage. Before they had arrived we had set out there rails with possible garment choices and it was down to them to pick their preferred garments, obviously we were hoping they would choose the ones we had put together!

I noticed some of the garments we chose being used in clips in the show from the week or for the stage garments for Saturdays performance (27th November) following on from the Wednesday!

The audience for the show were press only, so the audience wasn't too big to handle. Before the show started when all hair and make-up was finished we got the models into their first outfits and lined them up to check they were all styled as planned earlier on in the day during the fittings. The images below show the models ready to go out on stage:

XFactor - Wagner charming the ladies!

XFactor - Cher & Katie

XFactor - Matt

And of course the XFactor contestants too were ready to go out on stage! It was a great opportunity to work with contestants on the show, it made me think of when I graduate next year, that I can work with people who are in the press and have a name for themselves,
something I have always dreamed of doing!

I also have a mega crush on Matt so it was lovely to meet him!

The show was fab and everything went perfect, thanks Very.co.uk for putting on such a great show!
